Light Painting with Fiber Optics

Light painting is a tricky venture. These were creating using a fiber optic brush and a flashlight. To create the different colors, I cut out little shapes out of the colored gels and stuck them to some tape which was then placed between the fiber optic brush and the flashlight.

To do this, you have to get the model’s pose, turn off all the lights, open the camera’s shutter, and then paint in your light patterns. I used a remote shutter to start and stop the process. With a white fiber optic brush you’re able to create what appears to be falling water. There are other light painting tools such as plexiglass diamond shapes, square shapes, and little light painting pens. But to get it just right takes practice and patience.
